The New Veterans Memorial at Aaron Webster Cemetery
Posted on: November 11, 2024
On this Veterans Day, we reflect on the service and sacrifices of those who have defended our country. As we honor veterans past and present, the city of Auburn Hills invites the community to visit the new Veterans Memorial at the Aaron Webster Cemetery—a place dedicated to remembering those who served. The Veterans Memorial was officially unveiled on May 27, 2024, during the American Legion’s annual Memorial Day Parade. Its design incorporates four key elements, each dedicated to an important chapter in our shared history.
The first monument honors all veterans from our community who served in World War II. Every name from the MOMs Memorial—a valued piece of our local history—has been included on this monument. It was important for us to carry forward the legacy of the MOMs organization into this new Veterans Memorial, ensuring that the contributions of these veterans are not forgotten.
The second monument pays tribute to the veterans buried in Aaron Webster Cemetery, which recently marked its 200th anniversary. This historic site is the final resting place of Aaron Webster, a War of 1812 veteran who, with his wife, was buried here in 1823. The memorial helps ensure that the veterans interred at the cemetery are remembered and their service honored for generations to come.
The third monument is a tribute to those who were Missing in Action (MIA) or Killed in Action (KIA). While every veteran made a sacrifice, these individuals gave everything. This monument serves as a solemn reminder of their ultimate sacrifice and the cost of our freedom.
At the center of the memorial stands the Eternal Flame, a symbol of enduring gratitude for those who have served. The flame will continue to burn as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to honor veterans, past, present, and future.

This memorial would not have been possible without the contributions of many individuals and organizations. Special thanks go to Knight Global, who designed and constructed the Eternal Flame, as well as OHM Advisors, whose engineers guided the City’s staff through the planning and design process. The Department of Public Works and the Veterans Memorial Committee played a crucial role in bringing this project to life, and their dedication is evident in every aspect of the memorial.
The Veterans Memorial at Aaron Webster Cemetery stands as a tribute to those who served with honor. It is a place for reflection, a reminder to future generations of the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today. On this Veterans Day, and every day, we express our gratitude to our veterans. Your service will not be forgotten.
