The Public Square is Open!

Posted on: August 6, 2025

The City of Auburn Hills is pleased to announce the official opening of our new Public Square. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance downtown Auburn Hills, this inviting new space is intended to serve as a central gathering place for residents, visitors, and businesses in downtown Auburn Hills.

This project would not have been possible without the generous support of our community partners. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) for awarding a $450,000 grant, the Auburn Hills Community Foundation for contributing $250,000 (made possible through the generosity of Buzz Silverman of the Silverman Companies) and the Tax Increment Finance Authority Board of Directors for providing $400,000 in funding.

We also thank our engineering partner, OHM Advisors, for their project leadership, as well as our city staff, especially the Department of Public Works team, for their dedication and hard work throughout the development process.

Did you know that before Auburn Hills was incorporated in 1983, this very location was designated as Pontiac Township’s Public Square? Back then, it sat at the corner of Auburn Avenue and Principal Street, roads that are now known as Auburn Road and Grey Road.

Designed to be the heart of our downtown, the new Public Square will host performances, public gatherings, and community events throughout the year. It’s a space where neighbors can meet, relax, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our growing downtown.

Whether you're picking up a pizza from Larco Bros Pizzeria, a bubble tea from Quickly, or a cone from Twist 'N Dip, we invite you to take a seat at one of the new picnic tables and enjoy the surroundings. Come and experience the new Public Square!
