Auburn Hills Congratulates Genisys Credit Union on 90 Years

Auburn Hills is proud to be the corporate headquarters community of Genisys Credit Union. Yesterday, Auburn Hills City Council and staff, along with the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce, gathered at the Genisys headquarters location to celebrate a truly historic milestone: the 90th anniversary of Genisys Credit Union.

Nine decades ago, in 1936, Genisys was founded on a simple but powerful philosophy: 'people helping people'. What started as a small, local effort to support neighbors has grown into one of Michigan’s largest and most trusted financial institutions. And in case you didn’t know it, the name "Genisys" comes from combining the root origins of the two credit unions that merged in 2008: "Gen-" from General Motors (representing the members who started T&C Federal Credit Union) and "-isys" from Unisys (representing the foundation of USA Credit Union). Today, Genisys serves nearly 300,000 members across its network of 32 branch locations in Michigan and Minnesota and was recently honored as the Best Credit Union in Michigan by The Guide to Michigan, and regularly receives top honors by Forbes, including the number one spot. Genisys has held a 5-star rating for financial and safety for more than 35 years. That’s certainly something that makes its members feel confident that their hard-earned money is being held by a trusted organization.

But the true measure of Genisys isn’t just found in its billions of dollars in assets; it is found right here in our community. Under the leadership of President and CEO Jackie Buchanan since 2010, Genisys has built a legacy of giving. Every single year, the Genisys team dedicates thousands of volunteer service hours and partners on more than 1,000 community events. Whether they are helping a family buy their first car, supporting a small business, or investing in the future of Auburn Hills and beyond, they consistently put their members first. And in their corporate hometown of Auburn Hills, I can say firsthand that their generosity in support of a number of community events is unwavering.
