Art Beyond the Museum Walls

Posted on: May 18, 2026

As Downtown Auburn Hills welcomes Inside|Out in 2026, excitement is building. This partnership reflects a continued investment in placemaking, creativity, and community engagement. Art will no longer be something you have to seek out—it will be something you encounter unexpectedly on a walk to lunch, during an evening stroll, or while exploring downtown with family and friends. The reproductions were installed on Friday, May 15, and are thoughtfully placed throughout downtown, encouraging exploration on foot or by bike. Whether displayed near local businesses, parks, or gathering spaces, each piece invites passersby to pause, reflect, and engage.

Inside|Out is more than an art program—it’s a community-building tool. Weaving art into everyday life sparks conversation, fosters pride, and enhances the visual landscape. Communities across the region have noted that the program increases cultural awareness and makes neighborhoods more attractive and inviting. Since its launch in 2010, the program has partnered with more than 100 communities and installed hundreds of artworks annually—turning everyday spaces into vibrant cultural destinations.

For downtown Auburn Hills, this means:

  • Creating new reasons to visit and explore downtown
  • Supporting local businesses through increased foot traffic
  • Offering free, accessible cultural experiences for all ages
  • Showcasing the city as a destination for arts and innovation

Art lovers can further explore Inside|Out with updated interactive webpages at dia.org. This site features detailed maps for every participating community. This digital tool makes it easier to trace artworks back to the DIA, find other Inside|Out locations in their area, and more!

In Auburn Hills, art is coming outside—and everyone is invited.
