Every year, a group of amazing AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program volunteers assist taxpayers in filing their returns. According to AARP, 26,163 volunteers nationwide assisted 1,536,163 people, securing $1.1 billion in refunds for tax year 2023.
Seventeen AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program volunteers prepared 307 returns at the Auburn Hills Community Center for the tax filing season this year. The program helps seniors and low-income taxpayers file basic returns, but it is not for complex tax returns.
Here are some interesting stats from the past tax filing season with the Tax-Aide Program:
- Total Refunds: $257,040
- Average Refund Amount: $1,040
- Total Balance Due Amount: $90,422
- Average Adjusted Gross Income: $31,438
- Primary or Secondary Filer on the return over 60 years of age: 237
- Volunteer Hours: 875 hours
