In every thriving downtown, there’s a story of vision, investment, and collaboration. Celebrating progress can become an opportunity to inspire other communities, spark new ideas, and build regional momentum for downtown revitalization. I have been extremely proud to be a part of this story for the past 27 years. It’s easy to forget to sit back and appreciate everything that’s been accomplished over the years because it’s part of our day-to-day responsibilities. However, I recently had the opportunity to be reminded just how far Downtown Auburn Hills has evolved.
On Thursday, the Auburn Hills Downtown Development Authority hosted over 50 community members of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) for a member meet-up. The group walked downtown, making stops at Clever Fox Cyclery, Riverside Park, and our new public square. Think of it as a field trip for local community leaders; there was even ice cream at the end.
Downtown development is a journey, not a destination. By opening your doors and sharing your story with other communities, you not only honor the work that’s been done but also help others see how they might reimagine their downtowns.
