Summer Staycation in Auburn Hills

Posted on: June 30, 2023

Staying local for the Fourth of July? Make the day special with a nearby activity in Auburn Hills.

Go for a bike ride! Pick up the Clinton River Trail at Adams Road, just north of Auburn Road, or park your car in the lot off Opdyke Road, just north of South Boulevard. When the trail hits Squirrel Road, take a short detour and visit Aaron Webster Cemetery. Look for the grave of Ebenezer Smith (1751-1825) who was a soldier in the American Revolution. Take a moment to reflect on our independence.

Hop back on your bike, head north on Squirrel, and take a breather at Riverside Park. Cool your feet off in the Clinton River, or let the kids play on the structure or in the splash pad. Did you think to pack a sandwich? Great! Enjoy it under the shade of the gazebo or pavilion. If not, Layover Coffee Bar* is just a short walk from the park and offers grab ‘n go lunch options. On your way back to the trail, swing into our downtown for a cool treat from Twist ‘N Dip.*

If the weather is too hot, or the air quality is a concern, head to Great Lakes Crossing Outlets* for family-friendly indoor attractions:

  • AMC Theatres
  • Legoland Discovery Center
  • Round 1 Bowling and Amusement
  • SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium

*Please check with each establishment to verify their holiday hours.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the Fourth, we hope you have a happy and safe holiday.
