Since opening for play in 1998, Fieldstone Golf Club has become one of the industry’s premier golf courses. This Arthur Hills designed course hosts leagues, outings and other special events.
Each summer, Fieldstone hosts the Club Championship. This competition determines the best-registered players at Fieldstone and gives players the chance to carry an official USGA Handicap with the GAM. The main purpose of the event is to offer our members the opportunity to advance to the State Championship hosted by the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) each fall. The GAM runs the Tournament of Champions each year. The field is open to anyone who wins their Member Club Championship or a 2014 GAM Championship.
Back in 2013, Greer Clausen, an avid golfer and top player on her high school team, decided to continue her competitive program and enter our local event. Greer, with her experience playing in AJGA, USGA and local tournaments at Fieldstone, decided she had a pretty good chance. Greer was on her way to a great finish during the 2013 schedule when she advanced to the championship at Fieldstone, and went on to win the event over a very skilled field of players.
Playing the 18-hole tournament at Hawk Hollow in Bath, Michigan, Greer was able to beat Stacey Slobodnik-Stoll, MSU’s Women’s Golf Coach, in a playoff after tying Stacey’s score of 73. We can’t confirm Greer beating Stacey had any influence on her attending MSU, but it did secure her spot on the MSU Golf team this year.
Greer was so kind to stop by a week ago on her way off to Michigan State to take a memorable photo with our head instructor Jeff Goble, her 2013 trophy and myself. We wish her the best of luck in East Lansing and yes, she will be defending her title and competing for that same trophy this fall when the GAM will host the Tournament of Champions at Oakland Hills Country Club.
