Hawk Woods Gets a New Maintenance Building
Posted on: October 17, 2025
The Hawk Woods Park and Campground is a very unique 80-acre property. Just like any property of that size, it needs a lot of maintenance to keep it clean, safe and operational. Over the years there have been three different sheds installed on the property, each of them suffering from a variety of problems. A consolidated maintenance building has been a goal for some time, and we finally had the opportunity to build it.
This new structure has the space we need, located where we need it, and is built like a building, not a shed. The new maintenance building combines the function of the three previous sheds to serve the needs of both the Department of Public Works and the Recreation Department. There will be plenty of room for our cabin cleaning cart, our firewood wagon and the hand tools we use when volunteer groups do service projects in the park. There will also be room for recreational programming supplies that are needed for park programs and nature activities. A standalone structure is located next to the new barn, which will house four cords of firewood, enough for an entire season.
This new building was built from scratch by our own Department of Public Works (DPW) staff – on time, under budget, with high-quality materials and excellent craftsmanship. This space will allow us to take good care of the park for many future generations to enjoy.
