Flapjacks and Lumberjacks

Posted on: January 27, 2025

The theme for January's 55+ monthly party was Flapjacks and Lumberjacks.  Last Friday, many of the seniors attending the party embraced the theme by sporting flannel shirts and beanie hats.  The lunch spread featured fluffy flapjacks, a breakfast casserole, fruit salad and warm cinnamon buns topped with delicious vanilla ice cream.

The highlight of the party was a pancake eating contest. Five brave volunteers from the Auburn Hills Fire Department and the Department of Public Works (DPW) stepped up to compete in this fun challenge. Participants had ten minutes to see how many pancakes they could eat, while the seniors in attendance cheered on their favorite contenders.

Ten minutes may sound short, but when you're faced with a mountain of pancakes, a crowd cheering you on and bragging rights at stake, it feels like a real challenge! Paul, the reigning champion from DPW, came out on top again, devouring more than 17 pancakes.  The other participants weren't far behind, consuming anywhere from 5 pancakes to 15 pancakes each.

Each of the participants received a Relief Bag as a humorous token of appreciation for their efforts. Inside each bag was an assortment of recovery essentials, including Rolaids, Tums, Pepto-Bismol, Aspirin, Vernors, and a band-aid.

Everyone had a great time.  A huge thank you goes out to the Fire Department and DPW volunteers who helped make the event such a fun and memorable experience.
