Dollar General Retail Store Proposed for Opdyke Road

As a follow-up to our previous blog, Fiero Lanes Property To Be Redeveloped, the Planning Commission is scheduled to review a developer’s proposal tonight to construct a new Dollar General retail store at 645 S. Opdyke Road.

Founded Springfield, Kentucky in 1955, Dollar General is one of the nation’s largest small-box discount retailers, operating more than 8,965 stores in 40 states. They offer a variety of the most popular brands at low prices.

The demolition of the dilapidated bowling alley building is anticipated to take place within the next few months and ground breaking is proposed to take place in Spring 2014.  It’s Dollar General’s goal to have their grand opening in Fall 2014.

The vacant Fiero Lanes (shown in this photo) will be demolished. The new Dollar General will help beautify the Opdyke Road Corridor by adding significant greenspace and 40 trees to the site (none exist).

The total investment of the project is estimated at $1 million.  The new store is expected to employ approximately eight to ten people.

For those interested in learning more about this proposal, the Planning Commission meeting will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chamber.
