Cooking Up Community: OU Students Share Healthy Recipes

Posted on: March 3, 2025

A big thank you to Oakland University Dietetics students for choosing the Auburn Hills Community Center as their setting for their Food Service and Nutrition Education final. The final consisted of a series of cooking classes put on by the students that would help meet the needs of a healthy older adult. The students used the new kitchen to demonstrate how to cook five healthy meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks, under $50. The goal of the final was for the students to create the menu themselves according to the nutritional focus and provide the nutritional information of each meal. There were three classes held, and each class addressed a different nutritional focus: there were heart healthy meals, diabetes friendly meals, and gut healthy meals. The seniors left with delicious recipes, amazing samples, and smiles on their faces.

Thank you again to Professor Sarah Martin, Professor Kelly Borton, and their six students:
