Budding Minds, Blooming Trees: Arbor Day Event
Posted on: May 6, 2024
The City of Auburn Hills proudly continues its tradition of celebrating Arbor Day, reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship and community building. Our Arbor Day observance allows us to maintain our prestigious designation as a Tree City USA from the National Arbor Day Foundation – a recognition that underscores our dedication to investing in the planting, maintenance, and care of trees throughout our community.
On Friday, April 26, we were joined by Mrs. Tolly’s third grade class from Rogers Elementary School for our Arbor Day festivities. These enthusiastic young students were well-prepared, engaged, and full of smart, inquisitive questions about trees and their importance. Together, we planted a vibrant Magnolia Tree on the school grounds. After an introduction by Mayor Brian Marzolf explaining the significance of Arbor Day, the students had the chance to ask questions and learn more about the vital role trees play in our environment. Then, with guidance from our dedicated Department of Public Works team, each student took a turn ceremoniously planting the tree’s roots and covering them with soil.

Auburn Hills’ forestry initiatives are pivotal to enhancing our city’s quality of life. Trees mitigate urban noise pollution, provide natural cooling shade that reduces energy costs, and contribute to the mental and physical well-being of our residents. Additionally, their ability to absorb carbon dioxide combats climate change, while their aesthetic appeal makes our neighborhoods inviting places to live, work, and visit. Celebrating Arbor Day allows us to educate the community, especially our youth, about these environmental benefits while uniting residents in the shared goal of growing our green spaces. It is a day that fosters environmental awareness, civic pride, and community togetherness.
