Auburn Hills Community Center Unveils Renovated Kitchen
Posted on: September 26, 2024
We recently cut the ribbon on our newly renovated Auburn Hills Community Center kitchen. The kitchen is a vital hub for various meal programs, including Meals on Wheels, senior lunches, and numerous community activities.

When the Community Center opened in 2006, the kitchen lacked proper cooking equipment. In 2019, we began exploring funding opportunities to upgrade the kitchen with the necessary equipment. In 2022, the city successfully applied for the Senior Centers Grant Program, part of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ “Oakland Together Senior Initiative.” This program offered a matching grant opportunity, and the city’s Tax Increment Finance Authority financed the match. In January 2023, the city was awarded the funding, marking the beginning of an exciting transformation from a warming kitchen to a fully equipped commercial teaching kitchen.
We are thrilled to announce that we will be offering a wide variety of cooking classes catering to all interests and skill levels. Whether you’re interested in cooking for one, pasta making, teen cooking, healthy cooking, international cuisine, and more, there’s something for everyone. This fall, we will host a four-week cooking and nutrition class for seniors in partnership with the Oakland University Nutrition Program, as well as a three-part cooking series with Andrea. Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, we will continue to add exciting new classes. To help build our programs, we are now accepting proposals from potential instructors.
Please note that this kitchen is not available for rent, as it is primarily designated for community programs and activities.
We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support, hard work, and generosity of the City Council, city staff, Oakland County Board of Commissioners, and the TIFA Board of Directors. Your contributions have made our dream of a fully equipped kitchen a reality. Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for your continued support.
