Auburn Hills Celebrates Earth Day

Posted on: April 29, 2024

Earth Day occurs annually on April 22nd, a worldwide celebration aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging sustainable lifestyles. Earth Day started in 1970 and has grown into a major movement uniting people worldwide in a shared mission to protect the planet. Earth Day serves as a reminder of the importance of appreciating and caring for our environment and preserving it for future generations.

In observance of Earth Day, the City of Auburn Hills collaborated with local companies Borg Warner and Vitesco Technologies to orchestrate a community volunteer event at Hawk Woods Park and Campground and Riverside Park. The event centered on environmental conservation, beautification, tree planting, and erosion control. A total of 72 volunteers joined forces with 10 staff members from Auburn Hills’ Parks and Grounds Division. This collective effort significantly improved the appearance and condition of Auburn Hills’ parks and green spaces, benefiting the entire city.

  • 75 yards of playscape mulch
  • 130 yards of wood chips
  • 50 yards of landscape mulch
  • 3 tons of stone
  • 30 trees planted
  • 101 perennial plants and shrubs planted

Auburn Hills is extremely grateful for the partnership with the dedicated volunteers from Vitesco Technologies and Borg Warner during this year’s Earth Day celebrations. Their support demonstrates the shared environmental advocacy and connectedness of our community. This impressive collaboration between local businesses, residents, and the city government is truly inspirational.  By raising environmental awareness and fostering community pride, these celebrations not only revitalize our parks but also cultivate a deeper appreciation for nature and the importance of conservation efforts to sustain a green, vibrant city for future generations.
