A Servant’s Heart That Just Keeps Serving

Posted on: June 4, 2024

If you are at all involved in Auburn Hills or have any interactions with the community, you probably know the name Henry Knight.  Henry and his wife Claire have been residents of the city since the 1950’s, and Henry was an author of the city’s Charter back when it incorporated on December 31, 1983.  It’s safe to say that Henry has more historical knowledge about the development of the community than anyone else.  We are often amazed at how he will talk about a property and give an entire history about how it was used, what kinds of soils it has, etc.

Recently, State Representative Donni Steele learned of Councilman Knight’s many contributions to the City of Auburn Hills, with his time, talent, and treasure.  Not only is Mr. Knight a constant volunteer, but his name also appears on such things as the Knight Amphitheater located at Riverside Park in downtown Auburn Hills, where he and his wife were donors to the project.

On Monday evening, June 3, 2024, Representative Steele appeared before the City Council to present Mr. Knight with a proclamation from the State of Michigan recognizing him as the eldest serving elected official in the state.  It was received with resounding applause by everyone in attendance at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Congratulations Mr. Knight on this recognition which is earned and so well deserved.  Your colleagues on City Council as well as the entire City staff have great respect and admiration for you and all you have done.  We are blessed to have you as a member of the Auburn Hills community.
