Local Organizations and Volunteers Support Food Access and Healthy Eating

Posted on: September 30, 2026

The Community Center collaborated with Planet Harvest, Eli Lilly, and Love Has No Limits to provide nutritious food boxes to adults aged 50 and older. Together, these organizations worked to help address food access while promoting healthy eating and overall well-being among older adults in our community.

Community Center employees and volunteers picked up and distributed 134 food boxes to residents. Recipients responded very positively, and we were grateful to see so many community members benefit from this wonderful program.

Each food box provided a variety of fresh produce and nutritious protein, including:

  • Apples
  • Cabbage
  • Cucumbers
  • Collard Greens
  • Lemons
  • Oranges
  • Zucchini
  • Two pouches of Chicken of the Sea salmon

While the fresh food is an important part of this initiative, the effort represents much more. It is about supporting healthy choices, providing useful nutrition information, and reminding our older adults that their community cares about their well-being. The combination of fresh fruits and vegetables, nutritious protein, recipes, and educational resources gives recipients tools they can use to make informed choices and prepare healthy meals.

Most importantly, this collaboration demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when community organizations, businesses, volunteers, and residents work together. We are deeply grateful to Planet Harvest, Eli Lilly, and Love Has No Limits for their partnership and commitment to supporting adults 50+. Together, we are nourishing our neighbors, sharing knowledge, strengthening connections, and building a healthier community.
