A Badge Honoring 250 Years of America

Posted on: April 30, 2026

The Auburn Hills Police Department is celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary with commemorative badges. These badges were offered to our staff and those who were interested were able to purchase and wear them on their uniform in place of our traditional badge for all of 2026. The badge design is unique in that it incorporates two American Flags as well as a seal in the center of the badge with symbols of the founding of America and the years 1776 and 2026.

A badge, like the United States of America, is solid and stands the test of time. There is no item more symbolic to a Police Officer than their badge. It is received immediately after an officer takes their oath of office, and it is worn on their uniform every single day throughout their career. The badge, also known as a shield, represents trust, authority, and a commitment to public safety. The motto of the United States of America is E Pluribus Unum, which means “out of many, one.”

While the badge itself is relatively small, the meaning behind it is greater than any one person. This rings true in the law enforcement profession as well as in the greatest country on earth! Here’s to 250 more years!
