Outdoor Hoops in Auburn Hills

Posted on: November 4, 2025

The basketball court is one of River Wood Park’s most popular features. Generations of kids have played basketball there, just a couple of free throws away from the beautiful banks of the Clinton River. Development on River Woods Park began in 2002 with multiple phases, which included the installation of the original court. The ribbon cutting for the original park project was on June 7, 2003.

The two pictures below were taken exactly 22 years apart. While the trees have grown larger and more majestic, the 22 years of sun, wind and water took a toll on the basketball court. Last year, we determined that the court was due for a facelift.

Beginning in October, the old footings were removed and replaced with larger steel reinforced footings along with brand new Bison brand equipment. Tree root damage was removed and surface repairs were completed, two benches were added and the court was restriped just as it was originally. The Department of Public Works administered the project including replacement of the basketball equipment and installation of the new benches. The Bison brand equipment was supplied by Midstates Recreation, the blacktop repairs were completed by Titan Paving of Waterford, and the court striping was installed by Goddard Coatings of Pontiac. The project took one month to complete and is expected to serve the community for another 20 years or more.
