Spring Break Camp: Connecting Kids with Nature

Posted on: April 2, 2025

This year's Spring Break Kids Day Camp at Hawk Woods Park and Campground was filled with fun, new friends, and the outdoors! This two-day, three-hour program allowed kids aged 5-10 the opportunity to spend time outdoors and learn about native Michigan flora and fauna with guided nature hikes, games, crafts and more.

Some of the highlights of this Spring’s camp was our two-day trail camera activity which had the campers make home-made suet and place out a trail camera overnight to see what animals may be around when we aren’t around to see. On day two, our campers got to review the footage of a racoon who visited their trail camera location. This camp wasn’t all about animals, because on day two our campers learned about the importance of planting seeds of local flowers in the spring and they then created their own purple cone flower seed balls to take home and plant. If you asked the campers, their highlights were always our daily guided hikes where they saw geese, song birds, mushrooms, native flowers and more!

Our Spring Break Camp may be over, but our Summer Camp registration is open! We are already planning fun-filled outdoor days for our next camp. Thank you again to all our spring participants and their families for joining us!
