Volunteer Champions!

Posted on: August 25, 2023

Our Meals on Wheels program is an important part of our overall volunteer efforts within the Auburn Hills community. We have some outstanding volunteers who not only do a wonderful job in their roles with us, but also have many interests outside of volunteering. Sometimes these interests lead to competitions and championships, which is the case with Auburn Hills kitchen volunteers Cathy Ardelean and Ken Kuss.

Cathy and Ken are longtime horseshoe pitchers. In 2007, Cathy began pitching horseshoes with her late husband Mike. He passed away in 2014 and, in 2015, she met Ken at a pitching event. They eventually married and travel throughout Michigan, participating in horseshoe events. Recently, they participated in the NHPA (National Horseshoe Pitchers Association) World Championships in Lansing. Ken participated in the Elders’ Men’s Division Class D and Cathy participated in the Seniors’ Women’s Division Class C, where she won 2nd place. They have a busy schedule for the rest of the season, traveling across the state and playing horseshoes with friends. In fact, Ken and Cathy both agree that the people they’ve met is the best part of their horseshoe pitching experience!
