Earlier today I listened to the live presentation titled: Census Bureau’s 2020 Population Counts for Apportionment. This is the first of many releases of information that will be coming out of the Bureau as a result of the 2020 Census. The apportionment data indicates the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives totaling 435 seats. Here are some interesting high level facts.
The first person counted for the 2020 Census lives in Toksook, Alaska
The official U.S. population is now 331,449,281 people, an increase of 7.4% from the official 2010 results
That state with the largest population is California at just under 40 million people. The state with the smallest population is Wyoming with 576,851 people.
The Michigan population number was not released today. California and Wyoming were noted today for the purpose of indicating largest and smallest populations.
Based on knowing that there will be a population loss in Michigan, it was noted today that Michigan has lost one U.S. House seat.
We are eager to learn the results of our own Auburn Hills population very soon. Every indication from early projections is that Auburn Hills will see growth far above the 21,412 persons counted in the 2010 census. Expectations are that we will see our population increase to as much as 25,000 people. We will have that information in the not-too-distant future.
