Hey! Lawns Are Not for Parking

Posted on: March 15, 2012

We have noticed an increase in people parking vehicles on their lawns.  This phenomenon may be due to the mild winter with its low levels of snowfall, but such practice is contrary to City ordinance.

The City Council adopted a prohibition of lawn parking many years ago primarily in an effort to eliminate the blighting factors associated with it.  In addition to blight concerns, parking on the lawn causes ground cover loss, erosion, and environmental hazards.  In some cases, it has slowed police and firefighter response during emergency events.

So, please be advised that all vehicles (which includes trailers, boats, and recreational vehicles) must be parked on a surface consisting of cement, asphalt, gravel, or brick.  Feel free to contact us at 248-364-6900 for approved specifications for these types of surfaces.

As with the enforcement of all City laws, voluntary compliance is our goal.
