It’s 21st century manufacturing with a human touch. Yes, real people assemble these products by hand. You just can’t build performance automotive seats like RACARO does with only machines. The cool thing is that this flourishing company is located right here in Auburn Hills.
The City of Auburn Hills has been doing its part to help RECARO North America succeed by partnering with them via tax abatements and expedited permits since their arrival over a decade ago. Today, the company employs around 200 people and anticipates further growth at its 4120 Luella Lane North American headquarters and manufacturing facility. It’s reported that they assemble about 45,000 seats annually at the 108,384 sq. ft. building.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to review a proposed parking lot expansion for RECARO on Thursday, March 20th. Upon City Council approval, RECARO plans to add 71 parking spaces (for a total of 247) to accommodate additional employees and visitors. City leaders understand that a quick approval process is critical to help the company begin construction this Spring.
RECARO’s name has been known for excellence in the performance racing world for decades and in recent years they have been expanding their offerings into vehicles the general public can buy. Look inside GM’s Chevrolet SS, Camaro Z/28, and Cadillac CTS, along with Ford’s Mustang, Focus ST, and Fiesta ST and you’ll find them.
Check out this informative three-minute video below created by Racer Dillon Van Way. It shows the inside of RECARO’s Auburn Hills facility and how they make their seats. Enjoy!
