He’s a natural-born leader. Ask anyone around City Hall and they would describe him as a smart, fair, and kind man … someone you would want as your friend.
I’m talking about Don Grice.

Don works as the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Service. He assists Director Ron Melchert with the day-to-day operations of the group that builds and maintains the City of Auburn Hills’ complex system of roads and utilities. Don’s a very busy man.
Last week, he took the time to prepare and facilitate a half-day retreat for the Community Development Department. Yes, it’s not uncommon around here for people to help each other. Auburn Hills got rid of the departmental “silos” you typically see in governmental agencies long ago. But, this was a different type of thing. Don really put himself out there for our team.
He inspired us to stay passionate about our role in cultivating this great town. “Passion” was the key word for the day. We all left the retreat even more aligned with the common mission to serve each other and our customers. No doubt, there’s no greater endeavor.
Don will tell you that he’s no different from anyone else, but those who work with him – and know him – would beg to differ.
