Technical Response Teams

The Auburn Hills Fire Department (AHFD) is equipped to handle a range of complex emergency situations that require specialized training and coordination. This includes responses to hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues, and other challenging scenarios. When such incidents occur, AHFD takes immediate action, establishes command, and collaborates with mutual aid partners to effectively manage the situation.

AHFD benefits from mutual aid through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), which provides access to specialized teams. Currently, AHFD has one member active in MABAS’s 3201 Hazardous Materials Team and three members active in the MABAS’s 3201 Technical Rescue Team. Each of these personnel undergoes at least five specialized training sessions annually, in addition to their regular fire and EMS training.

The department also conducts regular training for swift water rescues, where firefighters use cold-water suits and specialized rope systems to assist victims in freezing conditions.

Technical Responses May Include:

  • Hazardous Materials Response
  • Structural Collapse Rescue
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Trench Rescue
  • Rope Rescue
  • Water Rescue

Through rigorous training and mutual aid partnerships, AHFD ensures preparedness for these critical and demanding incidents.
