Business Licenses

Every year, the City of Auburn Hills requires certain types of businesses to obtain a license from the City Clerk's Office.  These establishments are inspected by the Fire Department, Community Development and Police Department to ensure they are compliant with local ordinances.  In addition to inspections, the City also ensures that the local licensed establishments are current on their sewer/water payments and taxes. 

Below is a list of the types of licenses that are required by the City of Auburn Hills.  Each type of license has an initial fee and subsequently a renewal fee.

Liquor - New License

There are no quota licenses available within the City of Auburn Hills. Therefore, if you are interested in obtaining a liquor license within the City of Auburn Hills you will have to transfer one in. The transfer of an on-premises liquor license is regulated by Chapter 6 of the City Ordinance. In addition to the application required by the state liquor control commission for licensing by the state, an application for an on-premises license shall be completed and submitted to the Police Department to sell alcoholic liquor, beer, wine or spirits.

Liquor - Renewal License

Every year, before March 30th, the City of Auburn Hills requires that establishments holding an on-premises liquor license submit a renewal application and fees. During the renewal period, inspections will be performed by the Fire Department, Community Development and Police Department to ensure compliance with local ordinances. In addition to inspections, the City also ensures that the establishments are current on their sewer/water payments and taxes. If the establishment seeking renewal is found to be in non-compliance with any of the City Ordinances or in default to the City financially, the license will not be renewed. The renewal of a liquor license is regulated by Chapter 6 of the City Ordinance.
