Fatal Crash Investigation (Opdyke Road near Hempstead Road)
Auburn Hills, MI —November 1, 2022— On Monday, October 31, 2022, at 7:35 pm, personnel from the Auburn Hills Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving a bicycle and a Jeep Wrangler on Opdyke Road near Hempstead Road.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old female from Attica, Michigan, was traveling northbound on Opdyke Road. The bicycle, ridden by a 47-year-old male from Bloomfield Hills, was also traveling northbound on Opdyke Road. The Jeep struck the bicyclist in the roadway. The 47-year-old male was unresponsive at the scene and transported to Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Jeep was uninjured in the crash and is cooperating with investigators. There were no other occupants in the Jeep, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
This crash is currently being investigated by the Southeast Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT). SOCCIT consists of crash investigators from Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Twp., Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and Clawson.
