Auburn Hills Fire Department Awarded Second Assistance to Firefighters Grant
Assistance to Firefighters Grant Award

Auburn Hills, MI-September 19, 2022-The Auburn Hills Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $65,315.  The grant is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and allows fire departments to request federal funds to replace old or outdated equipment to meet the needs of their communities.

The Auburn Hills Fire Department authored the grant request for three new structural firefighting gear washers and dryers.  The funds provided by the grant will allow the departments to replace three outdated 22-year-old washers currently in use and purchase three gear dryers.  This new equipment will allow firefighters to wash and dry gear in a quick and safe manner to reduce the risk of exposure to cancer causing agents present in their gear after fighting a fire.  A project of this scope would not have been possible without the support of federal resources.

Support for the grant application was provided by Senator Gary Peters in a letter submitted to FEMA underscoring the importance of the grant award to our department and firefighters.
