At 10:22 am Tuesday morning the Auburn Hills Fire Department was dispatched to the 2700 block of Highmeadow for a reported outside fire. Personnel arrived on scene to find a working fire involving plastic and metal auto part containers stored on the south exterior side of the building.
The incident was elevated to a 2nd alarm which brought in additional fire personnel and resources from Waterford Regional, Rochester Hills, City of Rochester, Oakland Township, and Troy Fire Departments. Auburn Hills Police Department personnel provided traffic direction and assisted on scene. Auburn Hills Department of Public Works also assisted with providing apparatus fuel.
The fire was contained to the outside storage area and was extinguished at approximately 4:30 pm which limited the facility’s production. The City of Rochester Fire Department’s drone was utilized and helped drastically in identifying hot spots in extinguishing the fire. It was estimated that 20,000 storage bins were involved. Minor heat damage occurred to the south side of the building structure. The fire was contained. No injuries were reported to fire personnel and/or occupants of the building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
