AUBURN HILLS, MI –February 20, 2018 – The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, announced that Shawn Keenan has been promoted to the role of City Planner.
“We have a great team in place here and Shawn is an integral part of what we do. I have worked with him and I am confident that he will be successful in his expanded role”, said Mayor Kevin McDaniel.
Shawn began his career as the Water Resources Coordinator with Auburn Hills in 2002. Since that time, Shawn has earned the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation. The AICP is the gold standard or mark of a professional planner. He has been the Assistant City Planner since 2014. In addition to his AICP designation, Shawn has also received his Michigan Zoning Administrator certification.
“Shawn is an asset to our Community Development Department team and serves as an outstanding partner in our efforts to plan for the city and review development projects. I have the utmost confidence in his ability and that he will no doubt contribute to the continued success of Auburn Hills”, said Steve Cohen, Director of Community Development.
Shawn has worked with City staff and various groups to help create numerous memorable Auburn Hills’ events such as the Fishing Derby, Clinton River Water Festival, Paddlepalooza, and the BBQ Cook-off at Summerfest.
Shawn has been the staff advisor to the Planning Commission and will continue to do so going forward. Shawn has been a true champion in promoting water quality and he’s considered an expert in this field.
Shawn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Law & Government and a Master’s of Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University.
