Auburn Hills, MI—January 8, 2018—The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, announces a community-wide Martin Luther King Jr. event at the Auburn Hills Community Center on Monday, January 15, 2018.

In partnership with the Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac, city staff and community members plan to have a positive impact in the community with donations collected at the event, while celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

“We would like to encourage everyone to come and support our event and to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As part of the event, we will be creating fleece blankets for the homeless. In addition, we will collect cold weather items and coats for Grace Centers of Hope. Fleece will be provided, however, we certainly can use more,” stated Karen Adcock, Director of Senior Services.

The free event will begin at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast.

At the end of the program, we invite attendees to stay and make flannel tie blankets in the gymnasium for the Grace Centers of Hope homeless shelter. This is a wonderful opportunity to share in this endeavor by working together towards an all-inclusive community that shows care, concern, and respect for all people. We will also accept blanket donations and cold weather items at the event for those that are unable to stay.

“We are proud to be partnering with Grace Centers of Hope as they have a far-reaching impact on those in need in the community,” says Auburn Hills Mayor Kevin McDaniel. “This event is truly significant as we honor and remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service in Auburn Hills.”

The event is sponsored in part this year by HarborChase, an assisted living community in Auburn Hills.

Limited seating is available for this event. To RSVP, please call the Community Center at 248.370.9353.
