Auburn Hills, Mich. ---Oct. 7, 2014--- New Avondale School District Superintendent Dr. James Schwarz has been on the job less than two weeks but has already identified an immediate priority: keeping the Nov. 4 bond proposal front and center with parents and community members. There will be no change in the current tax rate if the six-year, $2.175 million proposal is approved by voters.
“This is an extremely important bond proposal for the Avondale community,” Dr. Schwarz said. “A significant part of the monies are needed to finance the upgrading of Avondale’s bus fleet, saving the district’s general fund about $200,000 per year in bus lease costs. Additionally, bond revenues will also be used to provide ongoing support to the bus fleet, replacing buses as they wear out.”
Dr. Schwarz added that the balance of the bond revenue (about $875,000) will be used to repair and upgrade technology equipment and infrastructure, to replace printers and copiers that have reached the end of their useful life and are now obsolete, and to accommodate emergency repairs and upgrades to furnishings and equipment across the school district.
“The bond proposal will allow the district to make the changes and upgrades necessary to keep the district running efficiently without increasing the current tax rate,” Dr. Schwarz said. “Whether through an absentee ballot or going to the polls, I urge all constituents to vote on Nov. 4.”
To help spread the “get out and vote” message, Dr. Schwarz will be meeting with all Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) in the district to discuss the bond. Meetings will be held on:
- Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.: Middle School Parent Advisory Committee Meeting, Avondale Middle School media center
- Oct. 14 at 9 a.m.: Deerfield PTO Meeting, Deerfield Elementary music room
- Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.: Woodland PTO Meeting, Woodland Elementary media center
- Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.: R. Grant Graham PTO Meeting, R. Grant Graham Elementary media center
- Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.: Auburn PTO Meeting, Auburn Elementary media center
- Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m.: Yellow Jacket Parent Forum, Avondale High School media center
