Hazardous Material Spill

On July 26, 2014 at 11:59 a.m., personnel from the Auburn Hills Fire Department responded to the area of 141 S. Opdyke Rd. for a hazardous material spill. A liquid asphalt material had been located in a drainage ditch on Opdyke Rd.

Upon investigation, it appears during the morning hours that a vehicle had been involved in an accident on Opdyke Rd near Hempstead Rd.  This vehicle was towing an asphalt trailer.   Approximately 100 gallons of liquid asphalt leaked from the container and went into the drainage ditch.

The Oakland County Hazardous Material Team, Department of Environmental Quality, and the Auburn Hills Fire Department have determined the spill is contained within the County Drainage located nearby.  Testing reveals that the spill is contained within the Oakland County Drainage.   Diking have been placed to prevent further spreading.
