Press Release: Residential Structure Fire

AUBURN HILLS
Residential Structure Fire
Auburn Hills fire personnel responded to a residential structure fire at 351 N. Squirrel Rd, Oakland Estates Mobile Home Park, at 4:02 PM today’s date. The north side of the home was fully involved with fire when fire fighters arrived. Fire fighters quickly attacked the fire and protected the two residences on both sides of the location of the fire. The wind gusts up to 22 mph added to the challenge of controlling the fire. The fire was brought under control, but the residence is a total loss due to fire, smoke and water damage. The residence to the west suffered minor heat damage to the vinyl siding.
The residents were home when the fire started. Investigators determined the fire was started by a 4 year old child who was playing with a lighter in a bedroom. The residents were alerted to the fire when they smelled smoke. All of the residents were able to exit the home and no one was injured.
Fire personnel from the City of Rochester and Rochester Hills assisted with extinguishing the fire.
Auburn Hills personnel were clearing a fire at a children’s play structure at 201 N. Squirrel, Westbury Village Apartments, when the residential structure fire was reported. Westbury Village is adjacent to the Oakland Estates Mobile Home Park. The fire at the play structure was intentionally set and Auburn Hills police investigators have identified four suspects. The two fires are not related.
