Auburn Hills, MI—June 3, 2014—The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, announces the return of its Farmers’ Market on Friday, June 6th with a 2:30 pm ribbon cutting ceremony featuring the Mayor of Auburn Hills and other local dignitaries, as well as music and kid’s activities. With a new day of the week and an exciting mix of vendors, the Market is sure to be a hit with shoppers.
The Farmers Market, in its fifth year, will run every Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. through September 26th and has expanded its footprint in Downtown Auburn Hills at the intersection of Squirrel and Auburn Roads, behind The Downtown Education Nook. Genysis Credit Union is again serving as the presenting sponsor.
“We are excited that the Farmer’s Market is back! It’s wonderful to see the community come out and support local farmers and artisans who participate in the Market. It’s exciting to have this type of activity happening in our Downtown during the summer months. I can’t think of a better way to start off the weekend than with fresh produce and great live entertainment,” added Mayor Kevin McDaniel.
The 2014 Farmers’ Market promises an exciting variety of Michigan grown produce and plants, baked goods and unique artisans, according to Leigh Wilson, Market Master, who oversees the Farmers’ Market operations.
“The goal is to bring people together and give them access to affordable and healthy foods and handmade products that highlight the colors, fragrances and tastes of Michigan’s growing season.”
The market has confirmations from several quality vendors but still has openings for more, including local restaurant participation and food demonstrations by area chefs. The vendor fee is only $25 per week. In addition to vendor opportunities, the Farmers’ Market also offers access at no charge to an on-site Community Tent. The Community Tent offers local businesses, non-profits and religious organizations a venue to share their services with the community or introduce a new product or service. Vendors or local organizations interested in participating in the Farmers’ Market should contact Market Master Leigh Wilson at 248.504.8102 or auburnhillsfarmersmarket@gmail.com
The Market will continue to accept payment using SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), offering more customers the option to eat healthy this season.
According to Market Master Leigh Wilson, “Approximately 20% of Michigan residents receive food assistance benefits from SNAP; that’s why there is movement among Farmers’ Markets throughout the state to accept SNAP. We create easy access for local residents and visitors to our City to find and purchase healthy food,”
