We are proud to be recognized as an accredited law enforcement agency through the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC).  We are also proud to know that we are one of less than 50 agencies in the State of Michigan who have earned accreditation status.  There are over 400 law enforcement agencies in the state, and we truly value the accreditation process.  This ensures that our policies and procedures and the way we do business meets best practices and industry standards.  Not only do we say we are doing it right, but we must prove it to outside MLEAC assessors.

Ryan Gagnon
Chief of Police



About the Chief:

Ryan Gagnon began his career with the Auburn Hills Police Department on May 31, 1999, after graduating from Ferris State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. During his time as a police officer, Gagnon held positions as a field training officer, use of force/firearms instructor, court officer, and honor guard member.  He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2006 where he was assigned to the Patrol Division until his promotion to the rank of lieutenant in 2012.  Gagnon has commanded all three divisions of the Police Department: Operations, Investigations, and Support Services during his time as a lieutenant.  In April 2020, Gagnon was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police, where he served as second in command of the police department.  He was appointed Chief of Police on February 26, 2022.  He is proud of the fact that he is the first Chief of Police to start their career at the Auburn Hills Police Department and be promoted from within.  He credits this opportunity to those who came before him, paved the way for his professional development, and provided mentorship to him along the way.

Gagnon earned a master’s degree in public administration from Oakland University in 2020.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy session 276 and the Michigan State University School of Police Staff and Command.  Gagnon is also a Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission state assessor.

Gagnon is a trained instructor in Mental Health First Aid for Law Enforcement.  He has had the privilege of working with the Oakland Community Health Network in delivering this important training to police officers across Oakland County.  He has also had the privilege of leading the coordination of implementing the mental health co-response team in Auburn Hills and in partnership with the Birmingham and Bloomfield Township Police Departments.
