One important service that the Auburn Hills Fire Department is pleased to provide is car seat safety inspections. These inspections are free and can be scheduled to fit your calendar.

There are two major considerations before coming in for your inspection:

1. Make yourself familiar with the car seat(s) you are having inspected. Do not bring the car seat in the box. This is an opportunity for you to learn how to properly install your child’s seat, not to rely on technicians every time the seat needs to be moved. If you are unable to lift the weight of your car seat or are medically unable to assemble/install the car seat, commendations can be arranged.
2. Our car seat safety technicians are fire and EMS personnel first. If an emergency should occur during the scheduled appointment time, your assigned technician will call you once they are able to and reschedule the appointment.
3. Please try to call and schedule your appointment at least 1-2 weeks before the car seat is actually needed. Same-day appointments are rare due to our technicians' schedules.

Meet your Car Seat Technicians

Currently, the Auburn Hills Fire Department has two (2) certified car seat technicians on staff as full-time firefighters. They have been nationally certified by the National Child Passenger Safety Board in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These firefighters have gone out of their way to ensure a more knowledgeable and safer community for the City of Auburn Hills. They have been through various certification courses, active community training events, and continuing education courses to maintain their certification.
