When are the city parks open for use?
City parks are open from 7am to dusk, 365 days a year. The Skate Park is open dependent on the weather, usually mid April through mid October.
Can I use a Park Pavilion?
If you want to guarantee exclusive use of a park pavilion then you may rent the pavilion through the Community Center. If the pavilion is not rented on a particular day, then the public may use it on a first-come, first-served basis. If the pavilion is rented, then the renters have exclusive use of the pavilion for the entire day.
How do I reserve a Pavilion in the Park?

Can I drive my vehicle into the park to unload my supplies?
No. Vehicles are not allowed in the park due to safety concerns with park patrons. Please plan to unload your supplies from the designated parking areas.
Can I host an event in the park?
If you are considering hosting an event in one of our parks, please discuss your event with the Recreation Director first, to see what permissions and requirements may be required before holding an event.
Can I have a food truck at my park activity?
People who rent a park facility are allowed to have a food truck as long as people are not being charged for the food – they must be catering food trucks provided by the renter. The Recreation Director must be contacted prior to the activity so that accommodations may be made for the food truck. Food Trucks are not allowed IN the park, they must be in a designated parking space, approved by the Director of Recreation and Senior Services. Additionally, renters must provide fire suppression plans and maintenance logs and a copy of the food service license prior to the event.
Are the bathrooms open in the parks?
Bathrooms are open from dawn to dusk May – October. From October – May only restrooms at Riverside Park and Hawk Woods Park and Campground are open – all others are winterized for the season and are unavailable for use.
Are dogs allowed in the City parks?
Yes, they must be kept on a leash at all times and owners must clean up after dogs. Please do not allow your dog to run loose in the park - this is against the park rules and can be hazardous to other park users and wildlife.
Can I hire a petting zoo or have a bounce house at my park activity?
No, petting zoos, bounce houses, dunk tanks, and other additional activities are not allowed in the park.
May I put a tent up in the park?
You may put one 10’x10’ tent up in the park using sandbags to secure it. Tent stakes are not allowed.
Do the city parks have trails?
Yes, all major parks have either paved, crushed limestone or wood chip trails, or a combination of these surfaces. They are ideal for walking, jogging, biking, nature observation, and more. Paved trails also offer opportunities for rollerblading. See the Parks and Facilities section for details on each city park.
Is alcohol allowed in the park?
Alcohol is not permitted unless a renter has been approved for an Alocholic Beverage Permit, available with your rental. If the renter is approved for alcoholic beverages, then beer, wine, and champagne is permitted. Liquor is never permitted. Beer, wine, and champagne are also allowed at some public events and will be publicized with each individual event.
I found an injured or abandoned bird or wild animal – do you rehabilitate wildlife?
No, the Recreation Department does not rehabilitate wildlife. If you find an injured or abandoned bird or other wild animal, please contact a DNR-licensed rehabilitator before moving, touching, or otherwise handling the animal.
