AUBURN HILLS, MI –September 8, 2014 – By a unanimous vote, the Auburn Hills City Council voted to appoint Thomas A. Tanghe to the post of City Manager at their meeting this evening. Tanghe, 50, has worked for the city since May 2001 as Assistant City Manager.

“Tom has a proven record of leadership and accomplishment in Auburn Hills,” said Mayor Kevin McDaniel. “Tom has worked hard for the residents, the business community and the city employees and we believe he is the right choice.”

In addition to his role as City Manager, Tanghe will continue as Executive Director of the city’s Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA), which oversees investment in the city’s infrastructure and the continuing development of the downtown area.

“I want to thank the members of the City Council and the residents of the city for the appointment to this position and the overwhelming vote of confidence.” Tanghe said. “During my 13 years serving the residents of Auburn Hills, we have seen the city benefit from the growth of the business community which, in turn, has resulted in an improved quality of life for our citizens.”

Under Tanghe, Auburn Hills will continue its economic drive, benefitting Oakland County and Metro Detroit by attracting world-class businesses to the city along its I-75 corridor. In July, Faurecia, a France-based, international Tier 1 auto supplier, dedicated its newly-constructed 278,000 square foot North American Headquarters in Oakland Technology Park. Additionally, Japan-based Hirotec America, will be constructing its headquarters of the Americas in Auburn Hills. Other companies with construction projects planned or underway in Auburn Hills are: Atlas Copco, GKN Driveline, Ralco and Visioneering.
“We have a great team in place here and our open for business approach will not change. I am charged with taking an already excellent program to the next level and excited about the opportunity.” Tanghe said.

“My colleagues on City Council and I have the utmost confidence in Tom. We have every reason to believe that Tom will continue to lead Auburn Hills in a positive direction in the role of City Manager,” stated Mayor McDaniel.

Tanghe possesses an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Management from Macomb Community College, plus a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from Oakland University. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. In 2011, Tanghe was the Michigan Local Government Management Association’s winner of the Excellence in Local Government Award.
