General Maintenance - Department of Public Works

DESCRIPTION:  Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems.  Also maintains City grounds, parks, rights-of-way, and buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and Two (2) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair. Applicants should have some computer experience relating to Public Works activities in areas of software maintenance programs, RF telemetry, SCADA, GIS and work reports.

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities:Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities, and possess a mechanical aptitude. Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment, including appropriate computer skills. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Demonstrated ability to climb ladders and enter manholes, vaults and narrow openings; Freedom from fear of high places and confined spaces; Willingness to work outside in extremely hot, damp and/or cold weather.

Ability to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to read and interpret construction plans; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments and the public;  Must possess proven integrity; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Assessing Clerk

DESCRIPTION: Performs a variety of routine clerical, secretarial, and administrative work in keeping official records, providing administrative support to the department staff, and assisting in the administration of standard operating policies and procedures for the department. Has the ability to learn and understand property tax law and explain general concepts, at a minimum, to the public.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Associate’s degree in business-related curriculum. Experience with general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting and bookkeeping, and Two years of increasingly responsible office related experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to learn, understand and explain (in general terms), property tax law and property assessment concepts. Experience with BS&A municipal software preferred.

Accounts Receivable Manager

DESCRIPTION: This position will assist in directing, managing, supervising and coordinating the activities and operations of the Finance/Treasurer Division. This position will provide a variety of routine and complex supervisory, clerical, and administrative work in the administration of the city government.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, business, or public administration. Knowledge of governmental financial principles and practices as well as municipal state and federal government rules and regulations. Previous experience with computerized financial and accounting software, preferably BS&A software. Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports, verbally and in writing, and work effectively with our customers. Have ability to perform all duties effectively in an environment where constant interruption is normal.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer previous experience in any of the following areas: public administration, accounting, finance, grant administration, investments, debt issuance, property tax administration including bankruptcies, jeopardy tax liens, TIFA's, DDA's, LDFA's, Public Act 189's, Brownfield's, SMART Zones, Michigan Tax Tribunal Decisions and State Tax Commission Changes and their application to tax roll processing, management, billing, collection and distribution, bank account reconciliation and credit card reconciliation.

Police Desk Officer - Police Department

Hours: 7 days a week including holidays, shifts are 7a-3p, 3p-11p, 11p-7a. 

DESCRIPTION: The Auburn Hills Police Department is looking for quality people who are interested in becoming part of a progressive law enforcement agency as Police Desk Officer. This position is a part-time civilian position.  Front Desk Officers will assist citizens that come into the Public Safety Building lobby, monitor the building security system and cameras. Keeps surveillance over officers with prisoners in the sally port, processing and mantrap areas. Observes prisoners in lock-up and reports suspicious activities to command officers. Acknowledges intercom transmissions and allows authorized personnel access to secured areas. Write minor reports, including, but not limited to, Private Property Damaged Autos, lost property, drug intelligence, recovered autos/ property supplement reports, and warrant arrest supplements. Answer business telephone lines and direct phone calls. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and some college with specialized course work in criminal justice or security; past related work experience; or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.  Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern police practices and procedure; ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and ability to handle stressful situations. Must be a minimum of eighteen years of age at the time of application; no Criminal Convictions; must possess a valid driver's license; and pass a background investigation, health physical, nicotine test and drug screening.

Appraiser - Assessing Department

DESCRIPTION:  Performs a variety of routine and complex technical field tasks and office work in the appraisal of real and personal property. Primarily inspects and appraises residential property.  Also may be required to appraise commercial, industrial, and personal property as required by the assessor or supervisor. Selects and applies any combination of complex appraisal techniques applicable and necessary to the accurate and defensible determination of property values.  Appraises by fair market value, using annual gross rent multipliers and units of comparison; appraises by cost method, using quantity survey, unit in place, square and cubic foot.  Determines obsolescence and depreciation on structures and integral equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate will have thorough knowledge of real estate appraisal principles, techniques, procedures, laws and regulations.  Considerable knowledge of building, zoning and construction codes; working knowledge of accounting and auditing practices relative to property appraisal. Working knowledge of general property tax laws of the State of Michigan and manuals and procedures established by the State Tax Commission. Associate Degree (60 credit hours minimum) from an accredited college or university in business or public administration or closely related field of study, and State Certification Level II Assessment Administration (Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO)).
